One Dimension
straight line to left or right, up or down, east or west, etc.
Kinematics
the study of motion where we are not concerned with the forces causing that motion
Magnitude
a number of value
Scalar
a quantity that only has a magnitude
Examples of scalar
mass, temperature, time
Vector
a quantity that has both a magnitude and a direction
Examples of vector
velocity, force
Distance
a scalar quantity that refers to how much ground an object has covered its motion
Displacement
a vector quantity that refers to how far your ending point is from the starting point (final position - initial position)
Speed
the ratio of the distance and time (speed = distance/time)
Velocity
the ratio of displacement and time (velocity = displacement/time)
Is velocity and speed always positive?
Speed can never be negative, but velocity can be positive or negative
Acceleration Formula
acceleration = displacement/time (m/s²)
