Calculating Permit Fee

1) Figure out what kind of project it is: New commercial construction, New Residential, Renovation and find the correlating table

2) Look at how many trades are performing work and find the correlating cost.

3) Calculate the Permit Fee: Valuation*Multiplier + Add Factor

4) Decide whether the trade cost or the permit fee is higher. Which ever one is higher will be the Master Permit Cost for the project.

Bond Permit Calculations

1) Fill in the contract price by subtracting from the bid value until it runs out. Multiply that by the rate to get the premium (Contract price * Rate = Premium)

2) Add all the premiums together and decide if there will be a surcharge.

3) Look at the duration of the project and if it is over the surcharge amount multiply by the percent and write it below the total.

4) Add together to get the total premium amount and the surcharge to get the total bond premium.

Assignment 4: McCray

Quantifying grade beams, pilasters, structural slabs

Grade beam formwork is length*height from ost. Pilaster formwork is the same.

The linear feet void form is just the length from ost for beams.

Concrete for grade beam and pilaster is in CF, how many there are LW*H then divide by 27 to get CY.

Rebar go off the rebar chart numbers

Assignment 5: CU- Pan Slab

Pan slabs mapped on ost, the LF is the length. Width is from the pan slab paper.

Get area from ost and then subtract the cut outs of the elevator shaft and mechanical chase

Calculate columns how much concrete, LWH to get CF concrete. CF/27 to get CY.

Slab forms, perimeter of beam along with forms for the elevator and chase. Slab form for bottom and pan forms and column forms are just the area from ost.

Dovetail is just length of wall, Linear feet

Assignment 6: Weatherford- Columns, Beams, Joists

Column width is pounds per foot from the metal reference guide. Height is from looking at the elevation plans, subtract 3.5" and add 6"

Beams length is from the plans. Take the length and if it is in the middle of a column subtract ½ column (4"), if there is a wall width, subtract that and then add bearing (interior 6", exterior 8"). Width is from the beam name (W21 x 44) the width is 44.

LB to tons divide by 2000

Joists width is from the guide. Length is from measurements on plans then if there is a wall (full or half) subtract it and add 6" bearing. With the extension just get the length.

Conversion is all 1.0035 due to the slope north

Miscellaneous metal is all the same width from the manual. Length are on the plans.

Assignment 7: Academy - Tilt-Wall

Prep slab: the widest width by the tallest height, multiply

Edge form: Linear Feet!!! 2W*2H

Form at opening if there is a opening that is at the bottom, the sides plus the bottom, LF

Chamfer, outside/edge chamfer is 3, inside is 2. The chamfer would be 3*H + one width. In LF.

All reveals were done on ost by their LF. Default was Reveal 7

Embeds are all added up based on a letter.

Lifting inserts was 8 each, Brace and panel inserts was 2 each.

Finish is the SF of the prep slab subtracting if there was a cutout like a part of the wall was not as tall or wide.

Concrete CY was the finish SF multiplied by how many inches thick it was divided by 27.

Assignment 8: Weatherford & McCray - Building Envelope

Measurement of the wall (W*H) and deduct overhead doors, personal doors

Metal Panels, Insulation, CMU, Weather Barrier are all the same. Get width, the heights change for each one, multiply and deduct doors or windows from where it is placed in the wall.

Horizontal reinforcing has to be calculated by the 16" o.c. (which is specified on specs) by taking the total height and dividing and then rounding up.

Flashing is calculated by adding together where the flashing is placed (at the top of the windows + Bottom of the doors etc.) Make sure that when calculating the flashing along the bottom of the wall to subtract the cutouts for the doors.

If there are multiple walls, section them out into south, north, west wall/elevation.

Reinforcing and flashing will be in Linear Feet!!! That means add not multiply.
