Allussion

A reference to something famous, historical, or well-known.

Anaphora

The repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses or sentences, often used to create emphasis.

Apostrophe

A figure of speech in which a speaker directly addresses an absent or imaginary person, or a personified abstraction.

Archtype

A universal symbol or motif that recurs across literature and mythology, representing typical examples of certain character types or themes.

Defamillirize

Making something familiar seem strange or unusual.

Deus ex machina

A plot device where an unexpected power or event resolves a situation.

Evoke

To bring a thought, feeling, or image to mind, often through artistic means or memory.

Exposition

Background information given to help the audience understand the story

Foreground

Something that is made especially noticeable or important.

Foil

A character who contrasts with another character, making their differences more obvious.

Implication

Something that is suggested or hinted at without being directly stated.

Metonymy

Using something closely related to represent something else.

Pathos

A technique that creates feelings of sadness, sympathy, or emotion in the audience.

Synecdoche

When a part of something represents the whole thing.
