Traditional approaches to disease prevention
Methods or strategies based on centuries-old knowledge, often passed down through generations, that are holistic and focus on maintaining balance within the body, mind, and environment.
Plants and herbs
In traditional medicine, they are valued not only for their medicinal properties but also for their holistic approach to healing—addressing the body, mind, and spirit. They support the body's natural ability to heal and maintain balance.
Balanced Diet
A diet based on one’s body constitution containing all the essential elements that the human body needs – proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, lipids, fibre, and water, which is essential for physical and mental health.
Seasonal Foods
Fruits, vegetables, grains, and other products that are harvested during specific times of the year, depending on the climate and region, aligning with the cycles of nature to maintain balance, prevent illness, and improve overall well-being.
Rest
Helps the body to recover, repair, and rejuvenate, which is essential for maintaining a strong immune system, preventing chronic illnesses, and promoting mental well-being; it can take many forms, including sleep and relaxation.
Smudging
Burning herbs like sage to purify energy and ward off negative influences that can manifest as disease.
Environmental Sanitation
Advocating for proper sanitation and waste management to prevent disease outbreaks.
Steam Therapy
Involves breathing in steam from heated water (herbs may be added) to soothe and open nasal passages during a cold or sinus infection.
Detoxification
Process of removing or neutralizing toxins that accumulate in the body from environmental pollutants, poor dietary choices, or chemical exposure.
