John Rawls
Philosopher who developed the Theory of Justice. Believed society should be organized fairly so everyone has equal rights and opportunities.
Justice as Fairness
Rules and decisions should benefit everyone and not favor only a few. In healthcare, fairness means equal treatment and access to care.
Equal Liberty Principle
Every person should have equal basic rights and freedoms. Patients have the right to make health decisions, ask questions, and receive information.
Fair Equality of Opportunity
Everyone should have a fair chance regardless of age, background, disability, or social status.
Difference Principle
Inequalities are acceptable only when they help vulnerable or least advantaged people.
Social Contract Theory
People follow rules because these rules protect everyone and promote fairness. Hospitals use policies to keep patients safe.
Original Position & Veil of Ignorance
Decisions should be made as if we do not know our place in society (rich or poor, healthy or sick).
Importance of Rawls' Theory in Nursing
Nurses must practice fairness, equality, and respect. They should advocate for vulnerable patients and provide unbiased care.
