Difference between voltaic and electrolytic cell
Electrolytic cells need a battery because the reaction is nonspontaneous but voltaic cells doesn’t because it produces electricity spontaneously
Explain the purpose of the salt bridge in a voltaic cell
Over time in the reaction the anode starts to turn (+) and the cathode turns (-) and this kills the battry so the salt bridge delays this so the battery lasts longer
Cell Potential equation
CP= Cathode - Anode
What does it mean if the cell potential is positive? What kind of cell would bne required for this?
If its positive you have a working battery and the reaction is spontaneous so you would need a voltaic cell
What does it mean if the cell potential is negative? What type of cell would you need?
This means there is not a battery and its non-spontaneous and an electrolytic cell is needed.
