Legitimacy
Right and acceptancy, usually when there is an election where a candidate wins majority votes
Direct Democracy
A form of government in which citizens rule directly and not through representatives
Representative Democracy
A system of government in which citizens elect representatives, or leaders, to make decisions about the laws for all the people.
Pluralist Democracy
a type of democracy where the people can vote between which party they would like to be in power (e.g UK and USA)
Democratic Deficit
a lack of legitimacy due to a lack of involvement from the people and therefore questions democracy
Participation crisis
A lack of engagement by a significant number off citizens therefore questioning legitimacy and democracy. (e.g 2024 uk general election 60%)
Franchise/Suffrage
the ability/right to vote in public election.
Think Tanks
Government Research institutions, often with specific ideological goals these are often created by parties to solve specific political issues. (e.g Adam smith institute, policy exchange)
Lobbyists
representatives of interest groups who contact lawmakers or other government officials directly to influence their policy making. (Kaleb Cooper )
