A numerical measurement describing some characteristic of a POPULATION
Statistic
A numerical measurement describing some characteristic of a SAMPLE
Quantitative Data
NUMBERS representing COUNTS or MEASUREMENTS
Ex. 98.6 F / 5’11
Categorical Data
NAMES or LABELS
Ex. Green Red Blue
Discrete Data
Quantitative Data that are FINITE or COUNTABLE and you take breaks in between when counting them
(Ex. Staircase, breaks in between)
Continuous Data
INFINITELY many quantitative values that are NOT COUNTABLE and constant with no breaks
(Ex. Speed, weight)

Levels of Measurement
Ratio - Natural Starting point (ex. 0) |Ratios such as “twice” makes sense|
Interval - No natural starting point, ratios don’t make sense (ex. Fahrenheit)
Ordinal - Can be arranged in order, but differences are meaningless (ex. Ranks)
Nominal - Categories only (ex. Colors)
