Migrant
Any person that crosses national borders and changers their usual place of residence
Expatriate
A migrant who works legally in the host country. They spend more than 183 abroad.
Assigned expatriate
Someone who is sent by their company to work in a foreign location. Usually with organisational support and an expatriate contract. Repatriation expected
Self-initiated expatriate
Someone who independently chooses to move abroad to find work. May or may not return home. Less organisational support.
Non-migrant
Someone who crosses borders but doesn’t change their main place of residence
Intra-self -initiated expatriates
Remain with their current employer but move to a foreign branch
Inter-self-initiated expatriate
Leave their company entirely to join a new company
Drawn Expatriate
An assigned expatriate being approached by another and sign a new work contract.

Used when the decision is made to go on an international assignment
Migrant 4 criteria
Migrants are seen as threats due to bad media coverage
Migrants are usually forced to leave their own country
Period of stay- if they stay for a long period of time they become citizens of their host country
They usually move from a less developed country to a more developed country.

From more developed to less developed country

Not seen negatively
Less likely to stay in the host country

Action - AE= organisation offers assignment/ binding action organisational SIE= applies for foreign position/ binding action personal.
