Innate behavior
Behavior that is genetically programmed and present from birth; performed correctly the first time without prior experience or learning (e.g. a spider spinning a web or a sea turtle hatchling crawling toward the ocean).
Learned behavior
Behavior that develops or changes as a result of experience observation or practice rather than being fixed at birth (e.g. a dog learning to sit for a treat).
Fitness
A measure of an organism's ability to survive and pass its genes on to the next generation relative to other individuals in the population.
Differential reproductive success
The concept that individuals with certain traits reproduce more or less successfully than others in the same population leading those traits to become more or less common over time — the mechanism driving natural selection.
