What are the Necessary conditions needed for Coral Reef formation

Shallow water to allow for photosynthesis to occur / Warm water / Clear water so light can get through

2
New cards

Temperatures between ….. are optimal for Coral Reef growth

23-25

3
New cards

List 3 Threats to Coral Reefs

Pollution - Increase debris blocks sunlight Overfishing - Limits lifetime of inhabitants Too warm - Coral Bleaching

4
New cards

List 2 ways Humans use coral reefs

Natural Barriers - Protection to Coastal Erosion Medicine - Contain ingredients that can treat Cancer

5
New cards

Where Do Mangroves live? Why?

Intertidal Zones - This allows for roots to obtain nutrients from both the soil, and also hydration from the water

6
New cards

State 2 adaptations of Mangroves

Extensive filtration system to obtain maximum nutrients Seeds can float

7
New cards

Where do Salt Marshes form?

Intertidal environments in Brackish Water with good shelter

8
New cards

How do Salt Marshes form?

Sediment is deposited, and becomes trapped so therefore increases in size, so then the mud level increases. Succession occurs where less salt tolerant plants inhabit the area, completing the ecosystem

9
New cards

How are Sand Dunes formed?

Aeolian deposition (wind), these winds cause the sand to come in contact with an obstacle, and then grow. Vegetation is then grown there, and the cycle continues

10

What do Sand Dunes do for the coast?

Act as natural barriers"
