    • use charisma and enthusiasm for motivation

    • proactive in nature

  • More effective than leaders who follow a contingent reward strategy

  • common across all cultures and is superior in both autocratic and participative systems

  • transcends organzational boundaries

  • relationship oriented

  • followers are more likely to engage in extra role behavior - put in effort above and beyond what their role requires
