What 3 points should you cover when answering a 9 marker evaluation?
Limitations of method, impact on result accuracy, impact on validity of conclusions
What problem did the counting method for measuring velocity have?
We counted in ‘elephants‘
What is the limitation of counting in elephants?
People will count in different speeds which leads to inconsistencies
What is the effect on the reliability of the conclusion when counting in elephants?
The conclusion that velocity changed downstream is less valid
What problem did the rocks power scale have?
The scale is subjective
What is the limitation of the rocks power scale?
Subjective so people may think rocks are different shapes, however, we ensured the same person identified each rock
What is the effect on the reliability of the conclusion using the rocks power scale?
Our conclusion is more valid as we had the same person determining the shape
What problem did the channel width and depth have?
The measurements from bank to bank
What is the limitation of the width and depth measurements?
Not all measurements were accurate as tape measures were too short so we estimated
What is the effect on the reliability of the conclusion measuring the width and depth?
Our conclusion would be less valid as we couldn’t accurately identify the depth so cross section measurement is inaccurate
