whats the underclass
people who don't take part in the economy and therefore abuse problems for everyone else
how do the underclass rely on social welfare
by not attempting to get a job because they know the government will give them the money without the work (benefits)
who are the underclass
often people who are under educated, jobless, lazy, have lots of children, single/ lone parent, criminal
who are the new right
the new right is more a political philosophy than a sociological perspective, and is associated mainly with the years of the conservative government in Britain between 1979 and 1997 though some new right ideas resurfaced during the 2016-2017 conservative- liberal democrat coalition government
what do the new right believe
they believe in individual freedom and self-interest, and the need to reduce the power of the state to the minimum, self-interest is given priority over the needs and welfare of others.
why do the new right want to reduce benefits given out by the state
to make individuals more self-reliant. an example is cutting welfare benefits and encouraging people into work to discourage dependency on the state and promote personal responsibility.
