what is an exothermic reaction?
they transfer heat energy from the chemicals to the surroundings
they give out heat energy
what is an endothermic reaction?
heat energy is transferred from the surroundings to the chemicals
they take in heat energy
what is a reversible reaction?
if a reversible reaction is exothermic in one direction, then it is endothermic in the opposite direction
what is activation energy?
the minimal amount of energy needed to start a reaction off
in an endothermic reaction:
energy being taken in from the surroundings
the products have more energy than the reactants
in an exothermic reaction:
energy is given out to the surroundings
the products have less energy than the reactants
