Valence Electron
A negatively charged particle in the outermost shell of the atom.
Periodic Law
Properties that tend to change in a predictable way.
Atomic Radius
Describes the distance between the nucleus and its outermost electron shell.
Ionic Radius
Distance from the nucleus to the outermost orbital of an ion.
Ionization Energy
The minimum amount of energy required to remove an electron from an atom.
Electron Affinity
The energy change that occurs when an electron is added to a gaseous atom.
Electronegativity
An atom’s tendency to attract electrons.
Atomic Radius Trend
Increases from right to left and top to bottom on the periodic table.
Ionization Energy Trend
Increases from left to right and bottom to top on the periodic table.
Electronegativity Trend
Increases from left to right and bottom to top on the periodic table.
