What is the milli q water system?
An instrument that purifies tap water via resin filters to remove both negative and positively charged ions
Can you use tap water in an experiment?
NO.
Where should MilliQ water not be used, and why?
In water baths, as the high purity of the water can leach ions and cause corrosion in stainless steel tanks over time.
What water should you use in water baths?
Distilled water from the dark colored tap beside each of the lab sinks.
The tip of the water dispenser should…
Never touch your solution.
Where should MilliQ water be dispensed into?
Designated clean graduate cylinders for water collection. Never directly into a beaker containing reagents for solution preparation.
Should you add chemicals to a graduated cylinder prior to collecting water? Why or why not?
No. You will lose chemicals because a graduated cylinder does not support mixing, and if too much water is dispensed you will have to weigh out your chemicals again.
What should you do after choosing a function that allows for dispensing an exact volume of water?
Check the volume with a cordless piper for as the function must be calibrated to be accurate.
Where is the MilliQ machine located?
4.128. In 4.110, there is a labeled container of MilliQ water for use.
What is the first step of dispensing MilliQ water?
Ensuring there are no alerts or alarm signals present
What LED corresponds to the water quality meeting requirements?
Green water drop
What LED corresponds to the system being in recirculation mode?
Green pulsing water drop
What LED corresponds to a water quality alarm?
red water drop
What LED corresponds to an alert or alarm being raised?
A yellow safety triangle
What LED corresponds to an alarm stop occuring?
A red safety triangle
If there is an alert or alarm on the dispenser, what should you do?
Contact Dr. Croyle
If the displayed parameters do not match the acceptable values, what should you do?
contact dr. croyle
What resistivity is acceptable for MilliQ water parameters?
18.2 megaohm-centimeters
What Conductivity is acceptable for MilliQ water parameters?
0.055 microsiemens/centimeter
What TOC is acceptable for MilliQ?
less than 5 ppb
What is the maximum particle size in MilliQ water?
0.22 um with a millipak filter
What are the parameters for bacteria in MilliQ water?
less than 0.01 CFU/mL with a millipak or BioPak filter, and less than 0.005 CFU/mL with a millipak gold filter used in a laminar flow hood
What is the aceptable pyrogen content in MilliQ
0.001 EU/mL with a BioPak
What is an acceptable RNase content in MilliQ?
less than 1 pg/mL with biopak
What is an acceptable DNase content in milliQ?
less than 5 pg/mL with a biopak
What is an acceptable protease content in MilliQ?
less than 0.15 ug/mL with a biopak
What is the maximum acceptable flowrate of the dispenser?
2L/min
How do adjust flow rate for Manual Dispensing?
turn the dispense wheel counter clockwise to increase flow rate until desired rate is reached. start at lowest setting and work up.W
How do you dispense at full flow rate?
press down on the dispensing wheel
How do you stop dispensing water?
Turn the dispensing wheel clockwise to reduce flow rate, or press down on the dispensing wheel.
