How do standing waves form?
Superposition of two waves travelling in opposite directions with the same speed and wavelength.
What is a node?
A position on a wave with an amplitude that stays at 0.
What is an antinode?
A position on a wave that has a maximum amplitude.
How can a standing wave be formed using one wave?
Reflect the wave back (resonant frequencies)
When are two points on a wave in phase?
On the same point of the wave cycle (moving in the same direction/ doing the same thing at the same time)
When are two points on a wave out of phase?
On different points of the wave cycle.
When are two points on a wave in antiphase?
On the opposite point of the wave cycle (moving in the opposite direction/ doing the opposite thing at the same time)
What is the phase difference?
The amount one wave lags behind another.
What is one wave shown as?
360 o (2π radians)
When are the nodes in phase and anti phase on a standing wave?
All nodes above the line are in phase with each other (same below the line).
All nodes above the line are in anti phase with all nodes be below the line.
