Amendment 1

Protects 5 freedoms of religion, speech, press, petition, and assembly.

Amendment 2

Grants the right to keep and bear arms (guns).

Amendment 3

Protects citizens from soldiers taking over citizens' houses during peace time or war unless authorized to do so by law.

Amendment 4

Prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures.

Amendment 5

Protects the rights of the accused through 4 protections: Grand Jury must indict, Double Jeopardy, cannot be forced to testify against yourself ("I plead the 5th"), and due process of the law.

Power of the government to seize private property for public use provided the owner receives fair payment.

Protects the right to a trial by a jury in civil court for a suit for damages.

Prohibits excessive bail and fines, and prohibits cruel and unusual punishments.
