New cards

Tá neart fadhbanna ag baint leis an gcóras oideachais. Cruthaíonn an córas seo brú agus imní i saol an duine óig. Cuireann córas na bpointí brú millteanach ar dhaoine óga pointí arda a bhaint amach san Ardteistiméireacht chun áit a fháil ar chúrsa ollscoile. Tá iomaíocht ghéar idir daoine óga buíochas leis an gcóras seafóideach seo.

There is strong problems associated with the education system. This system creates pressure and anxiety in the lives of young people. The points system puts tremendous pressure on young people to achieve high scores in the Leaving Certificate in order to get a place on a university course. There is fierce competition between young people thanks to this unfair system.

2
New cards

Tá torthaí na hArdteistiméireachta bunaithe ar scrúdú mór amháin, ar aon lá amháin. Tá an Ardteist dírithe ar fhoghlaim de ghleanmheabhair, seachas ar chumas an duine san ábhar. Tá an iomarca ábhar le scrúdú ag an duine óg don Ardteistiméireacht. Caithfear ar a laghad sé ábhar a dhéanamh, ach is minic a dhéantar níos mó ná an méid sin

The Leaving Certificate results are based on one major examination, on one day. The Leaving Certificate is focused on rote learning, rather than on a person's ability in the subject. There is too much material for a young person to examine for the Leaving Certificate. At least six subjects must be taken, but more are often taken.

New cards

Cuirtear pointí breise ar fáil dóibh siúd a dhéanann mata ar an ardleibhéal, ach in ionad daoine óga a spreagadh, cuireann an córas lochtach seo tuilleadh brú orthu.

Extra points are offered to those who do math at a higher level, but instead of encouraging young people, this flawed system puts even more pressure on them.

4
New cards

Déanann líon mór scoláirí mata ar an ardleibhéal ar mhaithe leis na pointí breise seo a thuilleamh, ach bíonn brú, strus, agus iomaíocht sa bhreis i gceist leis freisin. Dar liom, uaireanta, is féidir le duine éigin a bheith ‘an gabha ag déanamh bróg é’, mar a deir an seanfhocal. Níl siad oiriúnach le mata ach tá na pointí breise ag teastáil uathu.

A lot of students do higher level maths to earn these extra points, but it also involves pressure, stress, and competition in the mind. I think sometimes, someone can be ‘the blacksmith making the shoe’, as the old saying goes. They are not suited to maths but they need the extra points.

5
New cards

Ní dhéanann córas na hArdteist, agus córas na bpointí, san áireamh ann, maitheas don duine óg ar chor ar bith. Níl sé go maith do mheabhairshláinte an duine óig. Bíonn daoine óga an lae inniu ag streachailt go mór le fadhbanna meabhairshláinte ar mhórán cúiseanna, ach is é brú na hArdteiste an chúis is mó leis na fadhbanna seo.

The Leaving Cert system, and the points system included in it, is not good for the young person at all. It is not good for the mental health of the young person. Young people today struggle greatly with mental health problems for many reasons, but the pressure of the Leaving Cert is the biggest cause of these problems.

Ba cheart don rialtas coras nua a thabhairt isteach, níl an coras seo lochtach amach is amach ach tá athruithe ag teastáil gan aon agó.Tá córas oideachais na hÉireann ró-acadúil, rud nach n-oireann do gach uile duine sa tír. Ba cherat oideachais níos leithne a chur ar dhaoine óga.

The government should introduce a new system, this system is not entirely flawed but changes are needed without a doubt. The Irish education system is too academic, which does not suit everyone in the country. It would be right to give young people a broader education.

B’fhearr liom féin dá mbeadh measúnú leanúnach i bhfeidhm, mar atá i dtíortha eile. Sa chóras sin, bheadh tionscadal nó cur i láthair le déanamh i ngach ábhar, chomh maith le scrúduithe rialta, in ionad scrúdú mór amháin ag deireadh an dá bhliain. Ní hamháin go mbeadh níos lú brú ann, ach bheadh níos mó béime ar thuiscint an ábhair agus ar thathneamh a bhaint as—agus nach é sin aidhm an oideachais i gcoitinne?

I would prefer continuous assessment, as in other countries. In that system, there would be a project or presentation to be done in every subject, as well as regular exams, instead of one big exam at the end of two years. Not only would there be less pressure, but there would be more emphasis on understanding the subject and enjoying it—and isn’t that the aim of education in general?

Is gné mór de shaol an duine óig córas na hArdteiste ach níl sé ag freastal ar an duine óig mar atá. Caithfear é a leasú agus dá luaithe is ea is fearr é.

The Leaving Certificate system is a major aspect of a person's life, but it is not serving the young person as it is. It needs to be reformed and the sooner the better.

I gcás na Gaeilge, tá go leor fadhbanna fós ag baint leis an gcaoi a múintear an Ghaeilge sa chóras oideachais in Eirinn. Cé gur teanga oifigiúil agus cuid larnach dár gcultúr í, tá sé soiléir nach mbíonn móránbéime ar úsáid na teanga i gcaint laethúil sa seomra ranga.

In the case of Irish, there are still many problems with the way Irish is taught in the Irish education system. Although it is an official language and a central part of our culture, it is clear that there is little emphasis on the use of the language in everyday speech in the classroom.

Is minic a dhírítear ar gramadach chasta agus ar litríocht seachas ar chumarsáid bheo agus phraicticiúil. Mar thoradh air sin, bíonn daltaí go minic gan muinín ná suim sa Ghailge. Ta gá le cur chuige níos nuálaí agus níos praicticiúla a chothaidh grá don tenga agus a thabharfadh deis do dhaltaí í a úsáid go nádurtha sa saol laethúil. Ba cheart go mbeadh níos mó béime ar an teanga labhartha agus ar an tenga í féin, seahcas ar chursaí litríochta.

The focus is often on complex grammar and literature rather than on living and practical communication. As a result, students often lack confidence or interest in Gaelic. A more innovative and practical approach is needed that fosters a love of the language and gives students the opportunity to use it naturally in everyday life. There should be more emphasis on the spoken language and the language itself, rather than literature

Ní féidir liom an córas oideachais a phlé gan tracht ar na buntáistí, deiseanna agus féidearthactaí ag baint leis. Cé go bhfiul go leor fadhbanna maidir leis an gcóras na bpointí, ni féidir a shéanadh go bhfuil mórán buntáistí ag baint leis.

I cannot discuss the education system without mentioning the advantages, opportunities and possibilities associated with it. While there are many problems with the points system, it cannot be denied that it has many advantages.

Ar an gcéad dul síos, cuirtear saoroideachais ar fáil do gach duine in Éirinn. Tá ardcaighdeán muinteoireachta againn agus bíonn rochtáin ag daltaí ar réimse leathan ábhar. Anuas air sin, tugtar tacaíocht do dhaltaí le riachtanais speisialtaagus cuirtaer béim ar fhoghlaim chuimsitheach do chách.

Firstly, free education is provided to everyone in Ireland. We have a high standard of teaching and students have access to a wide range of subjects. In addition, support is provided for students with special needs and there is an emphasis on inclusive learning for all.

Ta rogha leathan cúrsaí ar fáil dúinn sna coláistí tríú léibhéal chomh maith agus is féidir linn ár rogha rud a dhéanamh, ag brath ar ár spéiseanna féin. Chomh maith leis sin, is minic a bhíonn an deis againn cuid de chúrsa tríú léibhéal a chaithemah in ollscoil thar lear mar chuid de chlár idirnaisiúnta Erasmus

There is a wide choice of courses available to us in third-level colleges so we can choose what we want to do, depending on our own interests. In addition, we often have the opportunity to spend part of a third-level course at a university abroad as part of the international Erasmus programme.

Tá oideachais maith thar a bheith luachmhar agus tá an t-ádh orainn, mar dhaoine óga, go bhfuil deiseanna iontacha oideachais ar fáil dúinn sa lá atá inniu ann.

A good education is incredibly valuable and we, as young people, are fortunate to have wonderful educational opportunities available to us today.

Mar fhocail scoir, cé go bhfuil laigí áirithe sa chóras oideachais in Éirinn, mar a phléadh thuas, ach ní féidir a shéanadh go bhfuil go leor deiseanna agus bhuntáistí againn, Mar dhuine óig mé féin, tuigim na deachrachtaí seo agus an imní, an teannas agus an eaglaa chrutahíonn an chóras. Creidim go láidir gur cheart an córas oideachais a leasú agus da luaithe is ea is faerr é. Caithfear iarracht a dhéanamh iad a spreagadh agus a ghríosú. Mar a deir an seanfhocal, ‘ní neart go cur go céile’ agus ta fírinne ann gan aon agó

In conclusion, although there are certain weaknesses in the education system in Ireland, as discussed above, it cannot be denied that we have many opportunities and advantages. As a young person myself, I understand these difficulties and the anxiety, tension and fear that the system creates. I strongly believe that the education system should be reformed and the sooner the better. An effort must be made to encourage and motivate them. As the old saying goes, ‘strength is not in the hands of a strong man’ and there is no doubt that this is true.
