Inorganic chemistry
The study of inorganic compounds and the behaviour of non-carbon based chemical elements
Organic chemistry
Is the study of the structure properties compositions reactions, and preparation of carbon containing organic compounds, meaning compounds that contain carbon and hydrogen bonded together
Biochemistry
Explores the chemical processes related to living organisms. Scientist study RNA,DNA sugar, lipids, and their interactions and melodic processes. It explains how the body converts food to energy, how cells communicate, how all diseases develop and how medicines work.
Physical chemistry
The field of chemistry that deals with the principles of physics involved in chemical interactions. It explains how matter behaves that I’m molecular and atomic level and how chemical reaction reactions occur.
Analytical chemistry
Focused on identifying separating and quantifying matter. It studies the composition of substances and the structure of chemical compounds using qualitative and quantitative methods.
Theoretical chemistry
The making of predictions of our experimental observations and explaining phenomena involving atoms, molecules, and materials
What is chemistry?
The study of matter it’s compositions it’s properties and the changes it undergoes.
Who was Democritus?
First to propose that matter is made up of tiny, and indivisible particles called átomos. He believed that they were eternal uniform and deferred only in shape and size.
Who was Aristotle?
Rejected atomism; believed that matter was continuous and made of four elements, earth, fire water, and air
Who is John Dalton?
He proposed the first atomic theory he said that atoms are indivisible, identical within an element and combine and combine in fixed ratios.
Who was Robert Millikan?
Measured the charge of the electron using oil drop experiment. Confirmed that electrons have a small negative quantifiable charge.
Who is JJ Thompson?
Discovered the electron using ray tubes. plum, pudding model with electrons embedded in a positive sphere.
Who was Niels Bohr?
Proposed the electron orbits the nucleus in fixed energy levels. Proposed the planetary model.
Who was Henry Mosley?
Discovered atomic number equals number of protons. Organize the periodic table by atomic numbers rather than by mass..
Who was Erwin Schrödinger?
Developed the quantum mechanical model with electron wave equation. Described electrons and probability clouds orbitals not fixed orbits.
Who was James Chadwick?
Discovered the neutron. Explained missing mass and atoms and contributed to the nuclear model..
Who was Ernest Rutherford?
He discovered the nucleus through the gold foil experiment, and he proposed the atoms are mostly empty space with a dense positive nucleus, and that electrons orbit randomly around the nucleus. He proposed the nuclear model.
