Phonetics
Study of minimal units of language (dog barking isn’t speech. Dome sounds are your language, others aren't. Automatically knowing how to pronounce hmsounds without thinking about it.
Phonology
Study of the sound system of a language, how sounds contrast in each language to form a system for encoding info, and the differences between language systems.
Ex. Knowing pterodactyl isn’t a sound made in English. Ex. Spaff and blig could be words, while fsap and libg couldn’t. Ex, understanding spoken words even though not pronounced exactly the same way.

Morphology
The study of how words are constructed out of morphones. Able to break up speech into words, even though there are rarely actual breaks. Break words down into parts (unbelievability) and recognize new words (ungiraffelike).
Syntax
How words combine to form phrases and sentences. Recognize ungrammagical sentences.
Semantics
The study of linguistics meaning. (Including words with multiple meanings or combining words to form meanings.)
Pragmatics
Ability yo use context to interpret an utterance's meaning.
