Displaced Fracture
A fracture where the bone parts are not in alignment.
Nondisplaced Fracture
A fracture where the bone remains in alignment.
Simple Fracture
A fracture where the bone does not break through the skin, also referred to as a closed fracture.
Compound Fracture
A fracture where the bone protrudes through the skin, also called an open fracture.
Incomplete Fracture
A fracture that does not go all the way through the bone such as a greenstick
Complete Fracture
A fracture that has two separate pieces.
Transverse Fracture
A complete fracture that goes straight across the bone.
Oblique Fracture
A complete fracture that occurs at an angle.
Spiral Fracture
A fracture that wraps around the bone and is often caused by twisting forces.

A fracture where the bone is broken into two or more fragments.
Impacted Fracture
A fracture where one fragment is driven into another fragment or into itself.
Collie's Fracture
A posterior displacement fracture of the distal radius.
Pott's Fracture
A fracture of the distal fibula, often associated with a fracture of the medial malleolus.
Compression Fracture
A fracture that results in the collapse of the bone, commonly seen in patients with osteoporosis.
Stellate Fracture
A fracture in which the lines radiate outwards in a star-like pattern.
Tuft Fracture
A fracture at the end of a phalanx that resembles a crushed element with many fragments.
Monteggia’s fracture
A fracture of the ulna along with an anterior dislocation of the radial head.
