Epidermal cells, Specialized light touch receptor

Stratum spinosum, Specialized white blood cells, engulf and digest foreign particles

superficial epidermal layer, dead cells shed

Epidermal layer, dead keratinocytes, only thick skin

Epidermal layer, many layers of keratinocytes, fill with keratin die

bumps, capillaries, tactile corpuscles, or free nerve endings, create fingerprints.
Reticular Layer
Deep, dense irregular, collagen, elastic, and reticular fibers, 4/5 dermis

Under dermis (not skin), mostly adipose tissue, connects to other tissues and blood vessels

hypodermis, Fat tissue, energy storage, insulation, and physical protection

hair below surface in hair follicle, living keratinocytes

Knob base, enclose papilla

dermal papillae, encapsulated receptor, responds to light touch
Lamellar (Pacinian) Corpuscle (Where, Purpose):
deep in skin, responds to pressure and vibrations
Thermoreceptor:
specialized temperature receptor
Nociceptor:
specialized pain and damage receptor
Mechanoreceptor:
mechanical receptor, responds to pressure, stretch, or vibration
Referred Pain:
pain felt at a site different from the actual location

Adaptation:
