B-12 / Folate Test

Stands for B-12 or Folate Deficiency Anemia; this test determines whether you have a low level of hemoglobin and whether there is an enlargement of the red blood cells.

Folate Deficiency Anemia

A blood condition where a lack of B9 (folate/folic acid) prevents the body from producing enough healthy red blood cells.

Hemoglobin

The substance that transports oxygen throughout the body.

BMP

Stands for Basic Metabolic Panel; measures the levels of eight different substances in blood and provides important information about the body's fluid balance, the metabolism, and renal function.

BMP Glucose

Sugar functioning as the body's main energy source; high levels are a sign of diabetes.

BMP Calcium

Essential for nerve, muscle, and heart function, as well as blood clot formation.

BMP Electrolytes

Sodium, Potassium, CO2, Chloride; controls the amount of fluid and acid/base balance.

Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP)

Protein that is a type of hormone released when the heart works harder to pump blood.

ProBNP

Protein that functions as an ingredient to produce BNP; increased production indicates the heart is working harder.

CBC

Stands for Complete Blood Count; blood test used to check overall health and find conditions like anemia, infection, and leukemia. CBCs test for five substances.

The mechanism for movement of Hemoglobin.

CBC Hemoglobin

One of the five substances tested for in a CBC.

CBC Platelets

Cell fragments whose primary function is to create a blood clot.

The measurement of the number of red blood cells in the bloodstream.

CMP ALP

Stands for Alkaline Phosphate; liver enzyme that accelerates certain chemical reactions in the body.

Enzyme

A type of protein that's function is to accelerate certain chemical reactions in the body.

Bilirubin

Waste product produced when breaking down old red blood cells; mostly removed by the liver.

Digoxin Test

Determines blood levels of digoxin, a cardiac glycoside used to treat certain cardiac issues.

Digoxin Test Purpose

Performed due to the fact that the difference in levels between a healthy digoxin level and a harmful level is minimal.

Direct LDL Test

Determines levels of low-density lipoproteins; high levels can cause heart disease or stroke.

LDL Cholesterol

A type of lipoprotein in the blood. Lipoproteins are particles made of lipids and proteins that carry cholesterol through the bloodstream.

High A1C Test

Measures average blood glucose levels over a three-month period to diagnose diabetes.

Hepatic Function Panel

Blood test measuring specific substances to help determine liver injury, infection, or disease. This tests measures three substances.

Hepatic Function Panel Albumin and Protein

These build and maintain muscles, bones, blood, and organ tissue; low levels can be a sign of liver or kidney disease.

Hepatic Function Panel ALP, ALT, and AST

Stands for Alkaline Phosphate, Alanine Aminotransferase, and Aspartate Aminotransferase; A group of enzymes that assist the liver in converting food to energy. High levels can be a sign of liver or kidney disease.

Hepatic Function Panel Bilirubin

High levels of bilirubin can be a sign of liver issues.

Jaundice

yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes caused by an accumulation of bilirubin in the blood.

High Sensitivity CRP

Determines levels of C-reactive protein to find smaller increases indicating inflammation in the body. The high-sensitivity version finds smaller changes in C-Reactive Protein levels.

Lipid Panel

Measures the levels of lipids, cholesterol, and triglycerides to indicate plaque buildup and cardiovascular disease.

Apolipoprotein B (Apo B)

Measures Apo B to assess cardiovascular risk; acts as a carrier for lipids that lead to plaque buildup. Specifically transports LDL.

Lipoprotein (a)

Form of LDL that transports cholesterol through arteries; high levels indicate current or future plaque buildup.

Magnesium Test

Determines magnesium levels in the bloodstream; magnesium glycinate is an enzyme that regulates biochemical reactions.

P2Y 12 Test

Measures how well antiplatelet medications block receptors on blood platelets to prevent dangerous clots.

PT/INR Test

Measures how many seconds it takes a blood clot to form in a blood sample.

PSA

Stands for Prostate-Specific Antigen; blood test measuring PSA levels; high levels indicate the presence of prostate cancer.

PTH

Stands for Parathyroid Hormone; blood test determining PTH levels in the bloodstream. PTH controls calcium levels within the bloodstream.

Total T3, Free T3, and Free T4 Tests

Measures thyroid hormone levels in the bloodstream to diagnose conditions like hyperthyroidism.

Hypercholesterolemia

Condition characterized by an excess of LDL in the bloodstream, leading to atherosclerosis.

Hyperlipidemia

Condition characterized by an excess of lipids in the bloodstream (high cholesterol).

Hypothyroidism

Condition characterized by a deficit of T3 or T4 production by the thyroid gland; long term high levels lead to high cholesterol and possible heart conditions.

Hypoglycemia

Condition characterized by a deficit in glucose levels, such as a fasting blood sugar of 70 mg/dL.
