What is a sector?

  • An organisation - have different characteristics which determine which sector they are in

  • All sectors communicate with one another

What is the private sector?

  • Commercial sector

  • Owned by shareholders/individuals -

  • Driven by profit - benefits shareholders

  • Financed through shareholders and bank loans

  • E.G greggs, law firms, manufaturers, clothing

  • Non commercial sector

  • Owned by government - meant to benefit community

  • Funded thorugh tax payers

  • Not all orgs gov owned - unis, they still benefit community.

  • E.G NHS, schools, police, military, hospitas

  • They provide to community

  • One of biggest spenders on comms:

    • Paid for ads, editorial media coverage, .gov.uk provides factual info.

  • E.G stp smoking, kill your speed, Brexit campaigns, Covid campaigns

  • Ran by trustees

  • Not for profit - still help communities, profesh communities

  • Run off of donations and gifts

  • E.G political parties, pressure groups, trade unions

Does the third sector have to follow commercial rules?

Yes, even though not for profit, they have to behave in same way as they rely on having a good reputation to get people on side e.g Political Parties.
