CONFORMITY
Is a behavior in

accepted convention or
standards.
DEVIANCE
Is a norm violation that
exceeds the tolerance
level of the community
and results in negative
socialism
PRIMARY DEVIANCE
It refers to the violation of a norms
or rule that does not result in the
violator’s being stigmatized as
deviant.
SECONDARY DEVIANCE
It refers to deviant behavior that is a
result of being publicly labelled as
deviant and treated as an outsider.
CONFORMITY

positive and legitimate means
of achieving the goal of
success.
INNOVATION
The individual rejects the use of socially accepted means to achieve success.
RITUALISM
The individual rejects traditional
cultural goals but still adheres
to the usual steps to obtain
those goals as conscientious
and diligent person.
RETREATISM
The individual withdraws from society and does not care about success goals nor work for his success.
REBELLION
The individual rejects and attempts to change the goals and means approved by society.
SOCIAL CONTROL
It refers to the enforcement of conformity by society upon its members either by law or by social pressure.
FORMAL SOCIAL CONTROL
Refers to a restraint or sanction intended to potential deviants to conform to social norms.
INFORMAL SOCIAL CONTROL
It involves rewards for conformity or compliance. Non-comformity may take the form of gossip, social ostracism, rejection, punishment.
