Hero

Devil Figure
Ultimately evil with no chance for redemption. Often has a plan to take over the world to impose destruction, pain, or hardship.
The Shadow
A worthy opponent that the hero must fight with until the end. Often embodies the negative parts of the hero’s character - their weaknesses, insecurities, etc.
The Mentor
A teacher/guide who helps the hero attain the knowledge and skills necessary for him/her to succeed.
The Scapegoat
A person (or animal) who’s death is public. Their death usually highlights a sin or flaw of the society. Their death is more powerful/influential than the life they lived and usually propels the hero into action.
The Outcast
A character that does not fit in with the rest of society because they have different views or have acted in a way that appears “criminal“ to the other members of their world.
The Damsel in Distress
A vulnerable female character that needs to be rescued by the hero
The Platonic Ideal
A character (usually a woman) that serves as a source of inspiration for the hero. Their relationship is more intellectual rather than physical.
The Temptress
A female character that tries to distract the hero from his journey by tempting him with her beauty. She may be responsible for the hero’s downfall.
The Earth Mother
An older female character that brings life, fertility, and inspiration to the characters and to the land. She offers spiritual and emotional nourishment to those who seek her guidance.
The Creature of Nightmare
A monster usually created by the deepest, darkest part of the human psyche to threaten the lives of the hero and the people
The Friendly Beast
An animal that serves as a companion to the hero and to the people
The Initiates
Young heroes/heroines that must go through training before they are ready to take on an important quest/battle
Hunting Group of Companions
A group of loyal friends that are willing to face hardships and battles in order to stay together
Loyal Retainers
A group of individuals responsible for projecting the same nobility and power as the hero
