amphipathic

Molecules that are simultaneously hydrophobic and hydrophilic. These molecules have distinct regions: a polar, hydrophilic head and a nonpolar, hydrophobic tail. (eg; phospholipids)

monomer + example

small single repeating units that can join to form a polymer (eg; amino acid).

dimer + example

two monomers bonded together (eg; maltose).

polymer + example

a large molecules made of long chains of monomers bonded together (eg; cellulose)

monosaccaride + example

monomer of carbohydrate (eg; glucose)

disaccaride + example

carbohydrate made of two monosaccharides bonded via a glycosidic bond (eg; sucrose)

polysaccaride + example

A carbohydrate polymer consisting of many monosaccharides linked by glycosidic bonds (eg; glycogen)
