Cohesion
when two molecules that are same forming hydrogen bond (example: raindrops)
Adhesion
when two molecules are different forming hydrogen bonds (example: water sticking on window)
Hydrogen Bonds
A weak attraction between a highly electronegative atom and hydrogen atom
Surface Tension
water uses hydrogen bonds to hold objects dense than itself (can use cohesion or adhesion) allowing them to remain on the surface (example bug walk on water without sinking)
Capillary Action
to move up narrow spaces against gravity due to the combined forces of by both cohesion and adhesion (example water moving up plant stem)
