Concentric hypertrophy of left ventricle due to systemic hypertension

Appendicitis with faecolith
Healing rib fractures. Male, aged late 40s. The development of subperiosteal callus has resulted in spindle-shaped swellings at the fracture sites.
Healed pulmonary tuberculosis. The granulomatous process has been replaced by fibrous scars.
Deep vein thrombosis
Massive pulmonary embolism. Female, aged early 60s, who died suddenly and unexpectedly 3 weeks after appendicectomy.
Myocardial infarction. Recent postero-septal myocardial infarct and scar of old antero-lateral infarct. Ventricular dilatation, mural thrombosis and fibrous pericardial adhesions also present. Male, aged late 60s who died of cardiogenic shock.
Acute renal infarction - necrosis
Follicular adenoma of the thyroid. Male, aged early 60s. Autopsy specimen.
Acute colitis proximal to a carcinoma of the sigmoid colon which had caused partial obstruction. Major blood vessels supplying colon were not stenosed or occluded.
Osteosarcoma of femur. Female, aged late 60s. Pathological fracture was treated by insertion of medullary nails. These have been removed.
