When is a function positive?
A function is positive when its output values are greater than zero. That is, for all a in the domain, f(a)>0
When is a function negative?
A function is negative when its output values are less than zero. That is, for all a in the domain, f(a)<0
When is a function even?
A function is even if it symmetrical with respect to the y-axis. That is, for all a in the domain, f(-a)= -f(a)
When is a function odd?
A function is odd if it is symmetrical with respect to the origin. That is, for all values a in the domain, f(a)= -f(a)
Point of Inflection
The point at which a function changes from concave down to concave up or vice versa
Secant line
A line that passes through two points on a curve
Tangent line
A line that passes through exactly one point on a curve
