Order of regions of the vertebral column from superior to inferior
SUPERIOR
Cervical (C1–C7): The top seven vertebrae, located in the neck, support the skull.
Thoracic (T1–T12): The next twelve vertebrae, located in the upper and mid-back, attach to the rib cage.
Lumbar (L1–L5): The five vertebrae of the lower back, which bear most of the body's weight.
Sacrum: The triangular-shaped bone in the pelvic region, formed by five fused vertebrae.
Coccyx: The "tailbone," formed by three to five small, fused vertebrae at the very bottom
