Mercator’s Projection Map
Most common map choice, rectangular shape most convenient for printing, distorts some country sizes
Stereographic Map
Makes earth appear as viewed from space, any straight line running through centre point is a great circle
Lambert Conformal Conic Map
Shapes are well preserved near standard parallels, directions are realistic
Robinson Map
Equator is standard parallel, lines of latitude and longitude spaced evenly
Transverse Mercator
Accurate near equator, distortions increase moving further away, good for mapping east-west orientation
Peter’s Projection Map
Cylindrical projection, shows true proportion of nations, regions near equator are stretched, polar regions compressed, emphasizing southern hemisphere

Measure used to compare purchasing power of different countries currencies
Big Mac Index
Measures PPP between countries based on price of a big mac in different countries across the world
Population Distribution
How individuals are spread out across a given area, the pattern of where people live in the region
Population Density
Arrangement of people across earth’s surface, number of people in a given area
Settler Colonization
Large number of settler claim land and become majority, exploiting land and resources belonging to the indigenous
Extractive Colonization
Colonizers want raw material found in the region, primary focus is to extract and transfer resources to benefit colonizing power
Fracking
Process to extract gas and oil from deep rock formations, using high pressure water, sand, and chemicals causing the rock to crack and release the resources
Utilitarianism
Focuses on the greatest good for the largest number of people, and that actions should be evaluated based on their consequences
Virtue Ethics
Focuses on character traits or virtues of individuals and emphasizes moral excellence, focusing less on following moral rules or consequences
Deontology
Emphasizes duty, obligation and moral rules, actions are right and wrong based on their relation to universal moral principles rather than looking at consequences.
