What is Parliamentary Law?
Rules/precedents taken and followed during organized meetings or assemblies
The Right to the Minority
The minority has the right to be heard, but once a decision has been reached by majority the minority must respect and abide by the decision.
They can call votes and propose amendments.
The Rule of the Majority
Allows the majority to make decisions effectively and efficiently and vote on issues.
Partiality to None
Chairperson/PRESIDENT has a neutral role, established rules and roles create a fair and orderly decision-making environment.
Main Motion
It provides a method of bringing business before assembly for consideration and action. It introduces items to membership for consideration.
Second
It says that a topic is worthy of discussion and prevents time being wasted. It indicates that at least two members like the board to discuss the topic being presented
Amendment
Proposal to modify a motion under consideration.
Primary amendments modify the original motion and secondary amendments modify the primary amendment.
Amendments can strike out, insert, or add information.
Quorum
The minimum number of members required to be present at a meeting for the assembly to legally conduct business.
Without quorum, they cannot debate, vote on motions, or make legally binding decisions.
