1. Always learn words in context, never as isolated word-definition pairs. This is the single most important adjustment for you. So don't study flashcards that just say "word → definition." Every card should have the word in a full sentence, and ideally you generate a second example sentence yourself before moving on — production, not just recognition. 2. Say it, don't just see it. You engage well through spoken/discussion channels — that's consistent across every teacher's notes. Read new words and their sentences out loud, not silently. If you're reviewing with someone, quiz each other verbally instead of on paper. 3. Chunk by word roots/families instead of treating each word as unrelated. Since working memory is your bottleneck, 60 unrelated words is 60 things to hold; but words grouped by root (e.g., bene- = good → benevolent, benefactor, beneficial) is more like 5–6 chunks. This directly reduces the load rather than asking you to memorize more raw items. 4. Use spaced repetition software (Anki), not a fixed weekly review day. Keep volume realistic: 15–20 new words/day, not 60. Given the receptive vocab weakness specifically, more new words per day just means more forgotten, not more learned. Depth (context, production, repetition) matters more than breadth for you. 6. Revisit words that come up in real reading — not just list-based ones. When you hit an unfamiliar word in an actual passage, pause and figure it out from context first (playing to your strength), then check the definition, then add it to your deck. Words encountered this way tend to stick better than ones pulled cold from a frequency list, because they're already tied to a memorable context. The through-line: everywhere your profile is weak (isolated recall, holding many things at once), the method routes around it; everywhere it's strong (context use, verbal reasoning, spoken processing), the method leans on it directly.
