What are the two main categories of natural resources?
Renewable resources and non-renewable resources.
What are renewable resources?
Resources that can be replaced naturally over time.
Give an example of a renewable resource.
Solar energy, wind energy, water resources, or biomass.
What is biomass?
Plant material or animal waste that can be used as fuel and converted into energy.
Why is biomass considered carbon-neutral?
The carbon dioxide released when burning biomass is offset by the carbon dioxide absorbed by plants during growth.
What are non-renewable resources?
Resources that cannot be replaced once they are used up.
Give an example of a non-renewable resource.
Fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) or minerals (gold, silver, iron).
What is conservation?
The careful use of natural resources to ensure they last a long time.
How can we conserve natural resources?
By recycling, using less water, and turning off lights when not in use.
Why are natural resources important?
They are used to make everyday items, provide energy, and support life on Earth.
How do natural resources support economies?
By providing jobs in industries like agriculture and fishing.
