Why is mitosis needed?
Growth, repair of damaged tissue, replacement of dead cells, reproduction, single celled organism use mitosis to reproduce
What happens during G0? (interphase)
non-dividing cells remain in this state for extended periods of time
What happens during G1?
Cells begin synthesising all the cellular components needed in order to generate 2 genetically identical daughter cels. Size of ell increase at G1
What happens at the G1 checkpoint?
Check for cell size, nutrients, growth factors, DNA damage, if not met the cell will die
What happened in the S stage? (interphase)
DNA is replicated, DNA synthesis phase, twice as much DNA as before
What happened at G2?
Following completion of DNA replication. During G2, the chromosomes began condensing (shortening) and the nucleoli disappear and the duplicated centrioles start to elongate and mature
What happens at the G2 checkpoint? (interphase)
Check for cell size,DNA replication, DNA damage
Wha happens in the mitotic phase?
Chromosomes are paired and then divided prior to cell division
What happens during the spindle assembly checkpoint? (mitotic phase)
Check for chromosome attachment to spindle
