Gene Regulation
Controlled as to whether they are expressed or not, either on, off, high, or low level
Gene Expression
Whether genes are transcribed and translated to make their protein
Constitutively Expressed Genes
Genes that need to be expressed all the time
Tryptophan
An amino acid required to make proteins that bacterial cells can synthesize.
Biosynthetic Pathway
Describes the steps taken from an original molecule to the final product and can involve multiple enzymes
Rate Limiting Step
The first enzyme in a biosynthetic pathway which is subject to feedback inhibition.
Feedback Inhibition
Tryptophan is able to bind the first enzyme and prevent it from doing its job
Clustered Genes
Genes that are physically connected to each other on a part of the DNA in the bacterial chromosome
