Data loss
The unintentional or accidental destruction, deletion, corruption, or inability to access data stored on digital devices or systems.
Backup
The process of creating a copy of the data on your system that you use for recovery in case your original data is lost or corrupted.
40%
The percentage of companies that do not survive a disaster if they do not have proper backup or disaster recovery plans in place.
Schedule
A backup procedure step to plan key system data backups during off-peak hours when system use is low.
Compression
The process of reducing the size of files during backup so they can be stored using less memory than the original files.
Regularity
How often backups are created, which depends on the value of the data and the frequency with which the data changes.
Full Backup
A strategy involving copying all data from a source to a storage destination; it is simple but requires significant storage space.
Incremental Backup
A strategy that captures only the changes made since the last backup (whether full or incremental), offering the fastest backup speed.
Differential Backup
A strategy that copies all changes made since the last full backup, requiring fewer backup sets for restoration compared to incremental backups.
Local drives
Physical drives directly connected to the computer, such as a hard drive or solid-state drive.
Cloud Service
Any resource or application provided over the internet by a cloud computing provider, typically delivered on-demand via a subscription model.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
A cloud service that provides virtualized computing resources over the internet, such as virtual machines, storage, and networking.
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
A cloud service offering a platform for customers to develop, run, and manage applications without managing underlying infrastructure.
Software as a Service (SaaS)
A cloud service delivering software applications over the internet on a subscription basis, eliminating local installation and maintenance.
Cloud storage
The storage of digital data on remote servers accessed through the internet and maintained by a cloud service provider.
Shredding
A data destruction tool used to delete the contents of the Recycle Bin and Temporary Internet Files so that information cannot be restored.
Hard disk drive destruction
The act of destroying a hard disk drive via methods like mangling, crushing, disintegration, or melting to render stored data unreadable.
Degaussing
A demagnetizing process that reduces or eliminates an unwanted magnetic field or data stored on tape and disk media.
Device Encryption
A feature that encrypts all data using a strong passphrase for a decryption key to minimize the chances of data recovery even if not fully erased.
