How are appointments made?

• Made by the Senior Presiding Judhe - relies on recommendations made by the Local Advisory Committee

Local Advisory Committee

• Maximum 12 members

• Includes mags and non-mags

• Committee encourages as wide a range of potential candidates as possible to put themselves forward

• Ads placed in newspapers, local boards, radios etc

The selection process

• Candidate must fill in an application form and give the names of two referees.

• There is then a two stage interview process:

• 1) panel seek to find out more about persons attributes and to see attitudes to various criminal aspects

• 2) aimed at testing judicial aptitude by discussion of at least two case studies that are typical of regular mags cases.
