Made by the Senior Presiding Judhe - relies on recommendations made by the Local Advisory Committee
Local Advisory Committee
Maximum 12 members
Includes mags and non-mags
Committee encourages as wide a range of potential candidates as possible to put themselves forward
Ads placed in newspapers, local boards, radios etc
The selection process
Candidate must fill in an application form and give the names of two referees.
There is then a two stage interview process:
1) panel seek to find out more about persons attributes and to see attitudes to various criminal aspects
2) aimed at testing judicial aptitude by discussion of at least two case studies that are typical of regular mags cases.
