Contains subthalamic nuclei and several ascending and descending nerve tracts.

Habenula: motivational control of behavior
Pineal gland: modulate sleep-wake cycle, biological clock
Hypothalamus
Important in regulation of mood, emotion, sexual pleasure, satiation, rage, and fear
