Adaptive Immunity

The soft, spongy tissue found inside your long bones; produces erythrocytes, lymphocytes and leukocytes

Bone Marrow

A body system with the main functions of maintaining good health and protecting the body from harmful substances such as pathogens, allergens, toxins and malignant cells. 

Immune System

The part of your immune system that you are born with.

Innate Immunity

White blood cells—cells in your blood that help your body fight infections.

Leukocytes

The body fluid that removes cellular waste products, pathogens and dead blood cells from body tissues.

Lymph

Bean shaped structures of the lymphatic system that filter pathogens and harmful substances from lymph fluid in the body.

Lymph Nodes

A body system with the main functions of (1) absorbing fats & vitamins through the small intestine (2) removing waste products and pathogens from body tissues (3) returning filtered lymph to the body through two large ducts that empty into the R & L subclavian veins.

Lymphatic System

The network of capillaries, vessels and ducts that return lymph fluid from the tissues to the cardiovascular system.

Specialized leukocytes that play important roles in immune reactions. 

Lymphocytes

A sac-like mass of lymphoid tissue with specialized roles in the lymphatic and immune systems.

Spleen

A gland located in the upper chest with specialized roles in the lymphatic and immune systems. 

Thymus

Lymphoid structures in the throat that protect the entrance to the respiratory system.
