primary assessment
the process used to rapidly determine any health conditions that may be life threatening to your patient
secondary assessment,

How long should a primary assessment be?
in fewer than 15 seconds

Skin turgor
a measure of the elasticity of the skin and is used as an indicator of dehydration
Enteral drugs
are medications that enter the body through the digestive tract
Parenteral drugs
are those that enter the body in a different manner.
intravenous injection
Delivers medicine directly into a vein. Used when a medication is needed quickly, if the liquid cannot be taken by mouth, or if it is too irritating for intramuscular or subcutaneous injections.
intramuscular injection
Delivers medicine into muscle tissue where it can be quickly absorbed by the bloodstream. Used to administer medication more quickly than a subcutaneous injection and is easier to administer than an IV.
subcutaneous injection
Delivers medicine into the tissue layer under the skin and above the muscle. Used to deliver medicine quickly, but it takes longer to go into effect than IV as it needs time to diffuse into the body.
phlebotomist
trained to draw blood from patients who require testing as well as blood donors
semipermeable
smaller molecules are able to pass through, but large molecules are not.
Isotonic solutions:
The concentration of solutes in the solution outside the cell is the same as inside the cell. In this case, water moves into and out of the cell at equal rates. There is no net movement of water.
Hypotonic solutions
The concentration of solutes outside the cell is less than inside the cell (which means there is more water outside the cell). Water therefore moves into the cell and the cell swells (Ex: swimming too long causes fingers to prune)
Hypertonic solutions:
The concentration of solutes outside the cell is greater than inside the cell (which means there is less water outside the cell). Water moves out of the cell and the cell shrinks.

Watching the other pupil respond to light shined in the first eye
Dilation
Pupils get bigger
