Warsaw pact

Formed in 1955 by the Soviet union along with 7 other countries. Purpose was to counter NATO (especially after West Germany joined in 1955), solidify Soviet control over it’s satellite states, and create a unified military force and collective defence against potential western threats.

Military alliance of countries from Europe and North America that was founded in 1949 to provide collective security against Soviet expansion. If one member was attacked——> all other members will come to it’s aid

Hungarian uprising

Oct-nov 1956, against the Soviet union and it;s policies. Sparked by student protest, however turned into a full scale revolt demanding political freedom and independence. Brutally crushed by Soviet tanks on Nov 4th, killing thousands.
