Penicillin VK
Covers some Gram positives, particularly Streptococcus spp.
ADRs for Penicillin VK
Mild diarrhea, nausea, fever; monitor renal function.
Penicillin G Benzathine
Covers a moderate amount of Gram + (Streptococcus spp.) and some Gram -.
Dosing for Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim
For cellulitis: 1-2 DS tablets BID x 5-14 days.
Ciprofloxacin
Broad Gram negative coverage including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae.
ADRs for Levofloxacin
Aortic aneurysm, arthralgia, c. diff, neuropathy, QT prolongation.
Linezolid
Broad Gram positive coverage including Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA.
Doxycycline
Covers some Gram positives and Gram negatives including Lyme disease.
Vancomycin
Broad Gram positive coverage including Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA.
Aztreonam
Covers some Gram negatives, including Pseudomonas.
