Anatomical position
Orientation of the human body when it is facing upright and forward with palms facing outwards
Superior
One part of the body is higher (more cranial) when comparing to another part of the body
Inferior
One part of the body is lower when comparing to another part of the body
Lateral
One part of the body is farther away from the body’s midline when comparing to another part of the body
Medial
One part of the body is closer to the midline of the body (or any part of the body ie. arm, leg, foot) when comparing to another part of the body
Proximal
One part of the body is closer to the point of attachment to the body when comparing to another part of the body
Distal
One part of the body is further from the point of attachment to the body when comparing to another part of the body
Anterior
Towards the front

Towards the back
Superficial
One part of the body is closer to the skin (or surface) when comparing to another part of the body
Deep
One part of the body is further from the skin (more inside the body) when comparing to another part of the body
