Nose

Pharynx

Also known as the “throat”.

Narrow space located right

after the mouth and nose.

Nasopharynx

part of the

pharynx that is related to

respiration.

Larynx

Also known as the “ voice

box”. Organ that connects pharynx

and trachea

Trachea

Also known as the “windpipe”.

Narrow and cylindrical tube. Passageway of air going in

and out of the lungs. It is 5 inches long.

Bronchi

Two narrow tubes that

branch from the trachea

which eventually branch

out into thinner tubes

(bronchioles).

Bronchioles

Smallest airway that is

connected to air sacs called

“alveoli”.

Lungs

Cone-shaped organs.

Pleura

a two-layered

membrane that covers the

lungs.

Hilum

slit-like opening in

the lungs where bronchi are

inserted.

Alveolus

Site of gas exchange.

Diaphragm

A muscle which controls

the amount of air entering

the body.
