Isobaric Process
a closed-system process for which the PRESSURE is held constant
Isovolumetric Process
a closed-system process for which the VOLUME is held constant
Isothermal Process
a closed-system process that is held at constant TEMPERATURE
Intensive Properties
Properties that do NOT change based on the scale of the gas being considered (pressure and temperature)
Extensive Properties
Properties that change with scale (volume and number of moles)
Partial Pressure
The contribution each gas makes to the total atmospheric pressure
Diffusion
the tendency of molecules to move toward areas of low concentration until the concentration is uniform
Effusion
A gas escapes through a tiny hole in a container
Saturated Vapor Pressure
maximum pressure of water vapor in air
Dewpoint
the temperature at which air is saturated with water vapor
Relative Humidity
The percent ratio of actual water vapor partial pressure to the saturated vapor pressure
Ideal Gas Law Formula
PV=nRT
