Cone
is a surface of a rotation of a straight line
Apex or vertex
top point of cone
Axis
the imaginary line joining apex and center of the base
Generator
the straight line which generates the surface of the cone
Conic Section
the curves obtained by the intersection of a right circular cone by a plane at different angles
Conic: Circle
if a cutting plane is perpendicular to the axis and cuts all the generators.
Conic: Ellipse
inclined to the axis of the cone and cuts all the generators on one side of the apex
Conics: Parabola
if a cutting plane is inclined to the axis of the cone and parallel to one of the generators
Conic: Hyperbola
if a cutting plane intersects both the cones but not passing through the apex
Eccentricity
conics can also defined in terms of eccentricity
Parameter
that defines the curve shape
Parameter
it tells how stretched or flattened a conic is
Circle
set of all points on a plane that are equidistant from a fixed point on a plane
Center
fixed point
Radius
distance from the center to any point of the circle
Tangent
to a circle is a straight line that intersects the circle at exactly one point referred as the point of tangency
Circumscribed Circle (Circumcircle)
about a triangle is a circle around the outside of a triangle, such that it touches the vertices of the triangle
